Cast urethane needs a mold, but not an expensive one. Prototype tools can be ready in days. Production tooling is machined aluminum built for years of cycles, and it belongs to you.

Prototype tooling

For first articles and small quantities, we build soft tools from a pattern. The pattern can be a 3D print from your model, a machined master, or your existing part. Silicone or low-cost urethane molds capture detail well and are good for a few dozen to a few hundred pieces. Turnaround is typically days, not weeks.

Production tooling

When a part moves to production, we machine aluminum molds sized for the run rate. Cast urethane is a low-pressure process, so production tooling is a fraction of the cost of injection or compression molds and does not require hardened steel. Multi-cavity tools let us pour many parts per cycle and keep unit cost down on higher-volume programs.

Molds are built with the features cast urethane needs: vents where air would trap, generous draft where the part allows it, and fixtures for any inserts that get molded in.

Inserts and bonded assemblies

Many suspension and vibration parts include a steel sleeve, a threaded stud, or a mounting plate. We fixture the insert in the mold and cast the urethane around it, producing a bonded assembly with no secondary operation. Inserts are prepared and primed for adhesion before every pour.

  • Any inserts, including material and finish
  • Critical dimensions and how they are measured

Common questions

Who owns the tooling?
You do. Production molds are quoted as a separate line item, and once paid for they are your property. We store and maintain them at no charge while the program is active, and we will ship them to you on request.
How much does a mold cost?
Far less than an injection mold. Cast urethane runs at low pressure, so tooling can be aluminum instead of hardened steel and does not need cooling channels, ejector systems, or hot runners. Simple single-cavity prototype tools start in the low hundreds of dollars. Multi-cavity production tools are quoted per part.
Can you work from a sample instead of a drawing?
Yes. We can reverse-engineer a physical part, make a pattern, and cast a prototype tool from it. This is the usual path for re-sourcing a part whose original supplier has closed or dropped the program.
