What they do

A vibration pad sits between two things that should not shake each other. Under an engine mount bracket, it keeps drivetrain vibration out of the body. Under a machine, it keeps the machine’s vibration out of the floor and the floor’s vibration out of the machine. Under a CNC fixture or tombstone, it protects the table and damps chatter.

Why cast urethane

Urethane can be formulated across a wide range of stiffness and damping, so a pad can be tuned to the frequency it needs to isolate. It resists oil and coolant, which rubber does not, and it does not creep under sustained load the way softer materials do. For pads that see abrasion, such as fixture pads that have parts slid across them, urethane lasts many times longer than rubber.

Typical specifications

  • Hardness: 40 to 95 Shore A depending on the isolation target
  • Formulation: ester-based for oil and abrasion, ether-based for moisture and cold
  • Hardware: bonded steel plates, threaded inserts, and studs
  • Sheet and cut pads available for simple rectangular shapes
