Re-sourcing a discontinued or dropped polyurethane part

It is happening more often. The large urethane casters are shedding small and mid-size programs. Some suppliers have closed. Overseas sources have become unreliable or expensive under tariffs. Buyers are left with a bin of samples, a part number, and a production line that still needs the part.

Here is how we get you shipping again.

1. Send us what you have

A physical sample is best, ideally several, including a new one if you have it. A drawing helps but is not required. Tell us the annual quantity, the vehicle or machine it fits, and anything you know about the hardness or material.

2. We measure and document

We measure the sample, check its durometer, and identify the formulation type. From that we produce a drawing for your approval. If the original drawing exists, we compare. If not, you now have one.

3. We recommend a material

Often the original part was a compromise. We will match the hardness and color, and where the sample shows wear, cracking, or set, we will suggest a formulation that lasts longer. You decide.

4. Prototype tooling and first articles

A prototype tool is made from the sample or a machined pattern. First articles are poured, inspected against the drawing, and shipped for your approval. Typical timeline: two to four weeks.

5. Production tooling

Once you approve, we machine production tooling sized to your volume. It is yours. Releases begin on your schedule.

What it costs

Less than you expect. Cast urethane tooling is aluminum, not hardened steel, and a mid-volume production tool is often paid back within the first year of avoiding expedite fees and line-down risk.

Common questions

How long does re-sourcing take?
With a good sample, first articles are often in your hands within two to four weeks. Production tooling follows once you approve them.
What if I have no drawing at all?
That is the normal case. We measure the sample, create a drawing for your approval, and build tooling from it. You end up with documentation you did not have before.
Can you match the exact material?
We can match hardness, color, and general formulation type, and usually improve on durability. An exact chemical match to an unknown supplier’s proprietary system is not always possible, so we pour samples for you to test.
